Heathland Course
Myrtle Beach South Carolina is known for its amazing golf courses. The Heathland course is another great golf course that Myrtle Beach has to offer. This course is a little different as it has a British feel for it. Located in the famous Legends Resort, Heathland course has been said to be a masterpiece.
The Legends Resort actually has 3 different courses, the Heathland being one of them. The Legends Resort attracts many visitors because of its wonderful facilities. They offer a huge practice area along with a grilling room and a huge bar. The Heathland Course seems to be a favorite among the courses mostly because of its British style. The idea was to create the feel of the British courses with rolling hills and large dunes. Almost 500,000 yards, actually cubic yards of ground had to be moved as the land had initially been very flat with many trees. It was a very large project.
Although it took a lot of renovating, the end result has a very natural appearance. Heathland Course is very different from the Caledonia, which is very swampy. Heathland Course is open and has very few trees, although there are a few trees that outline the course itself. The dunes and the greens resemble the Scottish links. The grounds appear very traditional. There are a few points that are flat with swales with an abundance of bunkering in the fairway.
Heathland Course opens up nicely after the 5th hole and after the 7th hole it plays uphill to a high green surrounded by small pot bunkers. It was designed to look like the “Road Hole”. The 15th hole is only 350 yards, which is considered drivable but it carries over the hill with many bunkers around it. The Legends’ courses all have different style's one being more modern and the second course with a more classic feel to it. The British flavor of the Heathland Course seems to be a favorite with its open fairways and slopes, not to mention the bunkers surrounding the greens. Heathland Course is also the shortest course which most players find appealing.
